Welcome!

Abarna Selvarajah is a student-researcher, writer, and workshop facilitator whose community-based research examines the intersections of gender, immigration, and displacement. She is a PhD student in the Social Justice Education program at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), housed in the University of Toronto. Abarna recently published an article titled “Resistance Through Connections, Communities, and Friendships: Interrelational Possibilities of Educational Curriculum Design” in the Journal of Comparative and International Education. Her writing can also be found in the Journal for Studies in the Education of Adults.

Prior to this, Abarna received a Master’s of Arts in Social Justice Education with a specialization in Diaspora and Transnational Studies from the University of Toronto, and a Joint-Honors degree in Political Science and History from the University of Ottawa. In tandem with her academic pursuits, Abarna advocates on behalf of women, gender diverse folks, and children through community organizing and programming. She is also a fierce advocate for Tamil Genocide Education in school boards across the Greater Toronto Area.
